(2016 - ♾️)
Before the mid-19th century, plants, insects and minerals were used across all cultures to color fiber.
After the discovery of synthetic dyes, natural dyes were quickly replaced and an important part of civilization was forgotten.
Zuzubana is a project about bringing plants with dyeing properties into post-modernity, as vessels of information of the past, present and future.
Zuzubana is a project about sharing information, as such, it has relied heavily on educational initiatives and commisioned client work.
Disclaimers:
In our current dystopia, synthetic dyes are not a protagonist in the same way that consumerism is.
Neither Fragmentario nor Zuzubana have ever had as a goal to replace synthetic dyes with natural dyes, nor have been these been presented as “sustainable”
